 ACKNOWLEDGMENT

First of all we are thankful to ICT R&D ministry for approval of our project for National Grassroots ICT Research Initiative, and appreciate their step for motivation of students.

             

Secondly we are thankful to all authorities of our department and NED University especially our project supervisor for their guidance and cooperation to achieve this sponsorship and opportunity.

      

Executive Summary:

To travel from one place to another is basic need of human life. And helicopter are one of that ways to travel.

Technological development have made this.travel more faster and safer. Beside this electronic and digital inventions have made it more safe by reducing or eliminating human error. With that there was always a need to get flight data and accurate navigation to know the exact position of flying object.

When all this has done there comes a need of an autonomous flight, to make your vehicle such intelligent to take of, fly and land safely itself specially for military purpose.

Our Basic idea is to do all this things on small scale also to show feasibility. Also to enable a helicopter to takeoff ,  fly and land autonomously and to navigate its way either by itself or user entered checkpoints.

With it also to take flight data from autonomous flight and show it on a user display or computer screen on master end


Scope

This project covers scope for

·         Public safety projects for Search & Rescue in a specific hazardous area

Can guide directly to avoid time consumption.

·         Security purpose for Surveillance can keep watch on an area non-stop by automatically landing and refueling from ground stations in or near the area.

·         Aerial Mapping for precise allocation of object for civil engineers and surveyors because can fly in smaller and more constrained areas to build highly detailed elevation map

·         Military/ weapon guidance.

 

Research Objectives:  

  1. To develop self flying ability in helicopter.
  2. To implement procedures for autonomous navigation of helicopter.
  3. Search ways to have flight like auto pilot.

 With all these project covers wide range of topics like

·         Aeronautics

·         Navigation

·         GPS

·         USB to serial interface/serial interface

·         Data acquisition

 

These developments can figure out the defects in previous system, developments which should be necessary for better flight and other aspects also.

First GPS is tested on computer, for this purpose we connected GPS with computer through FTDI breakout board

latitude coordinates changes from 
24 degrees 50 minutes 45.60 seconds      to       24 degrees 50 minutes 43.99 seconds

longitude coordinates changes from 
67 degrees 02 minutes 02.24 seconds      to       67 degrees 02 minutes 01.96 seconds
